🌱 Structure of a Plant and Animal Cell

🧬 What Is a Cell?

All living things are made of cells. A cell is the smallest building block of life. It’s like a tiny factory that keeps everything working inside your body — or a plant, or even a bug!

🔍 Two Main Types of Cells:

  1. Animal cells – like in people and animals 🐶
  2. Plant cells – like in trees and flowers 🌳🌸

Plant Cell Structure

A plant cell is like a tiny building block that makes up plants. Let’s see what’s inside:

🧱 Cell Wall

This is a strong outer layer.
What does it do?
It protects the cell and gives it shape — like a strong wall around a house.

💧 Cell Membrane

A thin skin just inside the cell wall.
What does it do?
It lets good things in and keeps bad things out — like a smart door.

🌊 Cytoplasm

A jelly-like liquid inside the cell.
What does it do?
All the parts of the cell float in it — like fruit in jelly.

🍃 Chloroplasts

These are small green parts.
What do they do?
They make food from sunlight! Like tiny solar-powered kitchens.

🍼 Leucoplast

These are little white storage boxes.
What do they do?
They keep food safe inside, like tiny lunchboxes for the plant!

🌈 Chromoplast

These are bright and colorful parts.
What do they do?
They make fruits and flowers colorful with orange and red pigments – like nature’s crayons!

🧠 Nucleus

This is the control center of the cell.
What does it do?
It tells the cell what to do — like a brain.

🌊 Smooth ER

These are smooth tunnels.
What do they do?
They make fats and help clean up inside the cell.

🌾 Rough ER

These are bumpy tunnels with dots.
What do they do?
They help make proteins with ribosomes!

💦 Vacuole

A big bubble filled with liquid.
What does it do?
It stores water and food — like a storage room.

🔥 Mitochondria

These are tiny power plants.
What do they do?
They make energy for the cell to work and play!

📦 Golgi apparatus

This is the cell’s post office.
What does it do?
It packs and sends out things the cell makes!

🐾 Animal Cell Structure

This is the kind of cell animals (and people!) are made of.
It doesn’t have a hard wall like plant cells.
No green parts either — no chloroplasts!
Instead, it’s soft and flexible, like jelly.

What’s special about it?

  • 🛑 No cell wall — just a soft cell membrane
  • 🌞 No chloroplasts — animal cells don’t make food from sunlight
  • 💧 Small vacuoles — lots of tiny ones instead of one big one
  • 🍽️ Lysosomes — little cleanup bubbles that break down waste

📦Golgi apparatus

This is the cell’s post office.
What does it do?
It packs and sends out things the cell makes!

🍬 Glycocalyx

This is a sugary coat.
What does it do?
It protects the cell and helps it talk to other cells!

Cell Showdown: Plant 🌿 vs Animal 🐾

🔬 Feature🌿 Plant Cell🐾 Animal Cell
🧱 Cell wall✅ Yes — strong and stiff❌ No — only soft membrane
🌞 Chloroplasts✅ Yes — makes food from sunlight❌ No — gets food from outside
💧 Vacuole🟢 One big vacuole🔵 Many small vacuoles
🍽️ Lysosomes❌ Rare or absent✅ Yes — helps clean up waste
🧊 Shape🟩 Boxy and firm🟠 Round or squishy
🌱 Makes own food?✅ Yes (photosynthesis)❌ No
